The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) determines three core competencies for architects to have, based on the fundamental knowledge and skills that are required to practise in today’s fast-changing and demanding built environment landscape, in order to provide public assurance.
The core competencies the RIBA defines is a part of the organisation’s ‘Way Ahead: The RIBA Education and Professional Development Framework’ where Health and Life Safety, Climate Literacy and Ethical Practice are areas on which the current and all the future RIBA Members will be tested for. A fourth mandatory competence on Research Literacy may be introduced by the RIBA in the coming years.
In close collaboration with the RIBA, The Cross-Industry Action Group (that advances the Climate Framework Initiative) has helped the organisation to define its Climate Literacy Mandatory Competence requirements, as well as its related Knowledge Schedule’s headings - which exactly map against the Climate Framework’s (Tier 2 level) structure.
